How many business pages do you follow on social media?
And out of all those pages, how well do you know the businesses? The people that run them, the services or products that they offer?
So how well do your social media followers know you and your business?
Do they know all the treatments you offer? The health products you sell? The workshops you run?
In January 2020 I decided to reacquaint my business with my followers. I also thought it would help other small business owners to do the same with their followers.
So I created a 5 day challenge #letstalkaboutmybusiness
I did the challenge in January as it’s traditionally a slow month and I wanted to get my business visible again. I’d been on maternity with my second child and made changes to my business so it was a good time to just let all my followers know what I was up to.
However, you can do this challenge whenever it suits you. You might be stuck for ideas for posts and use this as prompts. You could even do one a week over 5 weeks. Whatever works for you.
So, let’s get started.
#LetsTalkAboutMyBusiness
Day 1 >>
Why did you start your business?
The Question >>
Share a little background about you and the reasons you started the business you have.
Have you always been in the wellbeing sector? Has it always been your passion? Or did you leave a high flying job in the city to become a homeopath? (Yes, I networked with a lady that did just that!)
Tell your readers about your special journey that is unique to your business.
You don’t need to go into too much detail about your actual business as we’ll be covering that on day 2.
The Reason >>
People buy from people and personal posts resonate with people. We’re interested in the journey and how you got to where you are.
DAY 2 >>
What is your business?
The Question >>
Today is the day to remind your followers what your actual business is.
What do you offer? Complementary or alternative therapies?
How do you help people? Do you make them look beautiful, feel relaxed, calmer?
What exactly are your products, services or treatments? What workshops do you run? What beauty products do you sell?
The Reason >>
Remind people what you offer.
Followers might not be aware of everything you offer or your business might have changed and you have new treatments available. You might have new products or a new exercise class.
Just give people a gentle reminder and pop a link to your website to prompt people to take a look.
DAY 3 >>
What is your favourite or most popular product, service or treatment?
The Question >>
Today is your chance to show how much you love your business.
Share with your followers what you love creating or doing or a product you love.
This is the reason why you run your own business. It’s the reason why you get up in the morning and do what you do.
The Reason >>
This is a chance for you to showcase a product or service or therapy, and sell without overtly selling.
Share your passion for your business and get your followers excited about it.
Use a case study, a testimonial or a story, to show how you help people whether it’s a relaxing massage, a beautiful manicure or a healthy diet.
DAY4 >>
What does your logo and marketing look like?
The Question >>
Share a picture of your logo, business cards, leaflet, banner, or whatever marketing materials you use.
Is there a story behind your logo? Why did you choose it? Why those colours? Is it new? Are you thinking of changing it?
Ask your followers a question about it.
The Reason >>
This is a chance to promote your logo and branding so that people recognise you. The more they see your logo, the more likely they are to recognise you
If you’re doing it right, it should complement your social media feed.
DAY 5 >>
What is your Call To Action?
The Question >>
What would you like your followers to do today?
- Sign up to your newsletter
- Take up a special offer
- Visit your website
- Follow other social media
- Sign up to a workshop or event
- Follow your blog
- Buy a product or treatment
The Reason >>
You should always have a reason behind your marketing.
Social media posts should always have a reason behind them
- Inform about your business
- Sell places in a class or workshop
- Notify people of special offers
- Make an appointment
- Newsletter sign ups
- More likes
- Show your knowledge
- Guide to your website
It’s not all about selling, it’s is about growing your business and reaching your followers.
But the odd selling post is perfectly acceptable – don’t be afraid to do it!
If you’ve been following me you might have noticed I always put a call to action at the end of each post, ask a question, share a blog, or web page – ask your followers what you want them to do. And you might find that they actually do it!
And finally
These five posts will really help you reconnect with your customers and followers again.
Businesses change all the time, move in different directions. Your wellbeing business might offer a new treatment, your beauty salon might have a new nail design, your coaching business might be running a new workshop.
You might do this as a challenge but you can use any of these post ideas at any time just to keep reminding your readers about the lovely things your business is doing.
Let me know in the comments if you’re going to give this a go.
Remember to use the hashtag #letstalkaboutmybusiness so I can find you and have a read.
